This research paper, prepared by Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz El-Sharkawy in 1976, presents an analytical and applied study of the phenomenon of inflation in the Egyptian economy over a decade spanning from 1964 to 1974. Its aim is to describe the true dimensions of this problem and measure its quantitative gaps. The study's findings reveal that the Egyptian economy suffered from volatile inflation, which reached a "volatile" stage in the final years of the research period. This was manifested in the enormous increase in excess domestic demand, which multiplied more than twentyfold, and in excessive monetary expansion that exceeded the rates of economic stability. The report also points to the role of structural factors such as the imbalance between labor productivity and nominal wages, the growing reliance on financing budget deficits, and external pressures resulting from rising import prices and the costs of successive wars and reconstruction following 1967 and 1973.
